Privacy policy

This site is run by Salman Farooq, who teaches Mathematics as Math Tank by Salman. This policy covers the public pages you can browse without an account, and the student dashboard you reach after signing in.

We ask for as little as we can, we use it to teach you and to stay in touch about your classes, and we do not sell it to anyone.

Everything below is something you type in, upload, or agree to share by signing in. There is nothing hidden.

• When you register for classes: your name, WhatsApp number, email address, city, school or college, the course you are interested in, and whether you prefer online or in-person teaching. We also record which page you came from, so we know which parts of the site are working.
• When you order a printed book: your name, WhatsApp number, email address, delivery address, and which book you ordered.
• When you sign in: your name, email address, and profile picture, passed to us by Google. See the section on authentication below.
• In the dashboard: your phone number, if you did not already give it when registering.
• While you are enrolled: which lectures you have watched, the assignment files you upload, and the marks and feedback given on them.
• When you buy a paid course: the payment screenshot you upload as proof of transfer, and any note you send with it.

We do not handle card details. Payment for a paid course is a bank transfer you make yourself, and all we ever see is the screenshot you choose to send us.

• To reply to you about a registration, a question, or a book order.
• To run your classes: enrolling you, giving you access to lectures and resources, and keeping track of what you have covered.
• To mark your work and give you feedback on it.
• To confirm a payment and enrol you in a paid course.
• To post your book to the address you gave us.
• To understand which pages people find useful, so the site gets better.

We do not sell your information, we do not rent it out, and we do not add you to any advertising list.

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how people use it. Google Analytics collects the pages you viewed, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, your device and browser, and the site or search that sent you here. It does not tell us who you are by name.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to do this. You can read Google's privacy policy for what Google does with the data, and you can switch it off for every site you visit with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies in your browser settings works too, and nothing on this site breaks if you do.

The site sets a few cookies of its own, and none of them are for advertising:

• A sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in to the dashboard. Signing out clears it.
• Three small dashboard cookies that remember whether you have given us a phone number, or chosen to skip the question, so you are not asked for it twice.

Signing in with Google is the only way into the dashboard. You enter your password on Google's own page, never on ours, so we never see it. Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture, and nothing else.

Your records are stored in a database hosted by Supabase, and the site itself runs on Vercel. Recorded lectures are delivered by Bunny Stream. Each of these providers stores data on our behalf and is not allowed to use it for anything else.

Files you upload, such as an assignment or a payment screenshot, are kept in private storage. They are not browsable and cannot be opened by a public link. When you or we open one, the site issues a link that expires within minutes.

We keep your information for as long as you are studying with us, and for a reasonable period afterwards so that past students can come back and ask for a record. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will.

Write to us at salman.farooq4@gmail.com and you can:

• Ask what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
• Correct anything that is wrong, such as a WhatsApp number or a school name.
• Ask us to delete your details. If you are mid-course we will explain what we have to keep in order to teach you, and delete the rest.
• Withdraw a registration you have sent, at any point before you enrol.

There is no charge for any of this, and we will get back to you within a few days.

Most of our students are at school or college, and many are under 18. If you are, please register with a parent or guardian who knows you are doing it. We ask for a WhatsApp number precisely so a parent or guardian can be reached about timings, fees, and progress.

A parent or guardian can contact us at any time to see what we hold about their child, correct it, or ask us to delete it.

If we change how the site handles your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. Worth a look if you have not read it in a while.
