What each volume covers

2 volumes covering all 8 syllabus topics, in the order Cambridge sets them out. Each volume carries its own notes, worked examples, topical past paper questions and homework.

Volume 1

Algebra, functions and geometry

The first half of the syllabus, covering everything you need to handle confidently before calculus starts.

  1. Quadratics

    Completing the square, the discriminant, quadratic inequalities, solving simultaneously with a linear equation, and equations reducible to quadratic form.

  2. Functions

    Domain and range, composite and inverse functions, and the graphs that go with them, including transformations.

  3. Coordinate geometry

    Gradients, midpoints and lengths, equations of straight lines, the equation of a circle, and points of intersection.

  4. Circular measure

    Radians, arc length and the area of a sector, plus the problems that combine all three.

  5. Trigonometry

    Exact values, the sine, cosine and tangent graphs, the identities, and solving trigonometric equations over a given interval.

Volume 2

Series and calculus

The second half, where the syllabus builds on Volume 1 and moves into the topics that carry the most marks.

  1. Series

    The binomial expansion of (a + b) to the power n, arithmetic and geometric progressions, and sums to infinity.

  2. Differentiation

    Differentiation from first principles, the chain rule, tangents and normals, stationary points, increasing and decreasing functions, and connected rates of change.

  3. Integration

    Indefinite and definite integrals, integrating (ax + b) to the power n, the area under a curve, and volumes of revolution.
